Girls dominate Idol at both ends...

The girls will be the big story tonight as Idol makes its first cut. As is so often the case on Idol, talent and actual performance will have very little to do with tonight's bottom three. If performance had everything to do with things, last night's bottom three might include favorites Paul McDonald, Jacob Lusk, Scott McCreery or Thia Megia. None of them measured up to what fans have come to expect. Yet all of those four have made huge connections fans, and will undoubtedly be safe.

At the top in popularity are wunderkind Lauren Alaina, who is the odds-on favorite to win Season 10, in spite of a lackluster, campy turn of "Any Man of Mine." Suddenly nipping at her heels is 22-year-old Pia Toscano, who has wowed judges and viewers with powerhouse performances two weeks in a row.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is a quartet of females, including one who gave a strong performance. Ashthon Jones, Haley Reinhart, Karen Rodriguez and Naima Adedapo are most likely in line for elimination tonight. All four received meager praise from the judges on Wednesday, though Jones gave the strongest performance of the group. Even so, she is the overwhelming favorite to receive her ticket home tonight.
