Pia still strong at the top; Naima takes over the bottom of the rankings

As we head into this week's performances of the third week of American Idol, there is little change at the top of the leader board. Pia Toscano is still a strong favorite to win Season 10, though Scott McCreery and Lauren Alaina are nipping at her heels. James Durbin is also still in the mix, as well, but early favorites Casey Abrams and Paul McDonald are fading quickly into the pack.

Meanwhile, an interesting shakeup is happening at the bottom of the rankings, as Haley Reinhart appears to be getting significant enough buzz to improve her chances of lasting into the Top 10, and perhaps even longer. The popularity of both Naima Adedapo and Jacob Lusk has slipped considerably, and they have both fallen into the bullseye for elimination. Both will need a strong week to ensure that voters don't forget about them. (Even though my odds show that Jacob appears to be safe, a fair amount of data indicates that he is trending downward quickly, perhaps enough so that he'll easily fall into the Bottom Three.)

Sitting quietly in the middle are Stefano Langone and Thia Megia. Stefano's recent string of strong performances has jumped him past Thia. Meanwhile, she has lagged a bit, though it's doubtful she'll be getting the exit this week or next, save for a nightmarish vocal week.

This week the Idols will be singing Motown hits. Let me know what you think they should and shouldn't sing. I'll post back tomorrow with my thoughts about the best songs suited for each one.

Here are this week's pre-show odds (which are presented for entertainment purposes only and not for gambling):

1. Pia Toscano (1/1)
2. Scott McCreery (5/4)
3. Lauren Alaina (3/2)
4. James Durbin (2/1)
5. Casey Abrams (5/2)
6. Paul McDonald (4/1)
7. Stefano Langone (17/4)
8. Thia Megia (9/2)
9. Jacob Lusk (13/2)
10. Haley Reinhart (15/1)
11. Naima Adedapo (18/1)
