What the Idols Should Sing In Motown Week

This week the Idols will tackle the Motown catalog, and undoubtedly we will hear a number of repeats from the four previous Motown weeks (in seasons 1, 2, 3 and 8). However, I'm hoping for a bit more originality than that. I'm hoping that the Idols will break new ground and sing some classics that haven't been tried during previous Motown nights. So below are my ideas for the Idols. Some of these songs have been sung in other Idol weeks, but never on a Motown night. Let me know what you think, and what songs you'd suggest for the Idols:

Casey Abrams - “What's Going On” by Marvin Gaye (Sung by Kris Allen in the Season 8 finale; Casey could deconstruct it differently with an emphasis on the string bass)
Lauren Alaina - “Tears of a Clown” by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles (Never attempted on Idol; Lauren can afford to tackle this one head-on with few changes)
Thia Megia - “I'll Be There” by the Jackson Five (Sung by R.J. Helton in the wild card round of Season 1; the judges have compared Thia's voice to Michael Jackson's - tonight would be a good night to remind them of that)
James Durbin - “Living for the City” by Stevie Wonder (Siobhan Magnus did this in Hollywood week and Taylor Hicks donned the purple coat to sing it in Season 5; James would rock on this in a version similar to the one by Toto)
Jacob Lusk - “I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever” by Stevie Wonder (Never sung on the Idol stage; Michael McDonald's cover could serve as inspiration)
Scotty McCreery - “I Second That Emotion” by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles (Not attempted yet on Idol; I can easily hear Scotty taking it down into his range)
Pia Toscano - “Signed Sealed Delivered” by Stevie Wonder (Sung by Fantasia Barrino in Season 3; Pia could easily one-up her by singing this with more restraint and control)
Naima Adedapo - “You've Got a Hold on Me” by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles (Never sung on Idol; plays right into Naima's range. If she focuses, she could impress)
Haley Reinhart - “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” by Stevie Wonder (Sung badly by Brenna Gethers in the Top 24 of Season 5; this could give Haley some range to appeal to viewers)
Paul McDonald - “Uptight (Everything's Alright)” by Stevie Wonder (New to Idol; I can hear Paul's voice on this song. Maybe he could sing it without making strange hand gestures)
Stefano Langone - “(Reach Out) I'll Be There” by the Four Tops (Another one not sung on Idol; again, a Michael McDonald cover might give Stefano some ideas about where to head with it)
Please let me know what you think of these choices, and which songs you'd pick for the Idols. Check back tomorrow for updated odds and predictions about who's going home and who's staying!
